Closure of CARe

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Community Assisting Recovery. As you know, since 1994 CARe's mission is to provide free, comprehensive information about disaster recovery, including the insurance claim process, to disaster survivors.

It has been almost 30 years since our founding, and in that time, we have helped tens of thousands of people rebuild their lives after hurricanes, floods, fires, and other natural disasters so they may effectively reestablish their homes, lives, and communities. In fact, just over the last 10 years, on a part time basis and shoestring budget, we have provided solid disaster recovery information through more than 20,000 interactions with individuals seeking assistance.

The decision to close CARe was not an easy one. We are deeply grateful to all of you who have supported CARe over the years. Your donations and volunteer hours have made our work possible.

We know that this news will come as a surprise to many of you. We want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to help our clients transition to other resources. We have already begun working with other disaster recovery organizations to ensure that our clients continue to receive the support they need.

We are also committed to preserving the history and legacy of CARe. We will be creating an archive of our website and other materials, and we will ensure that these resources remain available to the public for the foreseeable future. The book, The Disaster Survivor’s Guide to Insurance, which was published by CARe and written by George Kehrer and Lila Hayes, will remain available on Amazon and any future proceeds will be donated to a disaster related non-profit.

We want to thank you again for your support. We are proud of the work we have done, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have served you.
