Insurance/Recovery Tip:

Free Personal Property Inventory Software

The Insurance Information Institute has been created by the insurance industry “to improve public understanding of insurance -- what it does and how it works”

They have created online home inventory software to help you keep track of “your stuff” in case you need to file a claim. The software includes a lot of detail that you may or may not need, but might be especially helpful when replacing items and /or preparing for the next disaster. Here is their description of the software and a link to their website.

“This application makes creating and updating your home inventory easy. And with our free, secure online storage you will have access to your inventory anywhere, any time. You never know when a disaster may strike - but you can be prepared with a home inventory.”

Disaster News:

Too HOT to Handle
Wildfire Summit Fire in Santa Cruz featured on the Science Discovery Channel in a 4 ½ minute segment called “Too HOT to Handle”. The Rich family (who lost their home) is interviewed and home shot video during the evacuation is used, as well as science experiments and illustrations, to help illustrate the danger of a firestorm.

In the broadcast version, another family is also featured. They had built their home from concrete and had considered it “fireproof”. The eerie skeleton that remained and the description of how heat affects concrete is discussed. Check your local listings to watch this interesting discussion.

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.
