Insurance/Recovery Tip:

Appraisals for an antiques or collectables

Completing your personal property inventory is hard, but when it comes to antiques or collectibles, it can be time consuming and sometimes close to impossible. The bottom line is, there is someone out there who knows what your stuff would’ve been worth. Think Antiques Road Show. Of course, the problem is finding them. The other day while browsing the internet, I found the following websites.

I have not used this site myself, so use at your own risk. They seem to have many services including creating an appraisal just for you or a pass to unlock their database and browse. http://www.whatsitworthtoyou.com

Here’s another website for collectables: http://www.collectibleshopping.com

Repairs, prayer go hand-in-hand in CA
February 5, 2009

Wildfires are not out of the ordinary in California. Strong Santa Ana winds and drought conditions make the state susceptible to the blazes that often seem to fuel themselves and leave many without homes.

Disaster Prepared:

Australia will take a hard look at 'Leave Early or Stay and Defend' fire policy
February 9, 2009

As Australia comes to grips with the death of at least 130 people in the deadliest bush fires in its history, officials there say they will take a hard look at the much-vaunted "Leave Early or Stay and Defend" policy, which trains homeowners to defend their homes and is being considered for adoption in Europe and some parts of the United States, including California.

Disaster News:

Fined for illegal clearing, family now feel vindicated
February 12, 2009

They were labeled law breakers, fined $50,000 and left emotionally and financially drained.

But seven years after the Sheahans bulldozed trees to make a fire break — an act that got them dragged before a magistrate and penalized — they feel vindicated. Their house is one of the few in Reedy Creek, Victoria,  still standing.
