Insurance/Recovery Tip:

High Res Satellite Images

After a fire, a satellite image of your house prior to the fire might come in handy. You might discover that the roof was more complicated than you remember or when you line it up with a to scale line drawing of the house that the house was bigger or smaller than you remember. You can even use it to locate landscaping that is no longer there.

One company that sells high res images at a low price is terraserver. Prices range from $19.95 for 1000x1000 to $89.95 for 3000x3000. They will also print them for you starting at $19.95 for a 8"x10" up to $89.95 for 36"x48".

You can find them at:

SDG&E Lawsuit Q&A:

RUMOR: In an individual or mass tort law suit against Sempra Energy:

•  The fire victim can be “protected” or “exempted” from deposition and discovery;

•  Only those fire victims who want to be deposed will be deposed.

FACT: WRONG. As soon as an individual is named (becomes a plaintiff or party) in a filed individual or mass tort law suit, the individual is subject to all discovery and deposition procedures that Quinn Emanuel (and Morrison Foerster) will pursue to protect its client, Sempra Energy.

First Rebuilt Home Opens [in Lake Arrowhead]
July 31, 2008

Evoking memories of the mythical bird the Phoenix, which rose from the ashes, a heartfelt, tearful, joyous event was held on Wednesday, July 23.

Insurance Industry:

Important "Everett" Update

The Petition to decertify Everett v. State Farm was summarily denied by the California Supreme Court. This was not entirely unexpected as a published decision is rarely decertified.

Everett v. State Farm has language which says it’s the policyholder’s obligation to set his or her own homeowners insurance coverage limits. To protect homeowner rights, insurance cases that are proceeding forward will be predicated on different legal theories.

Many judges and justices are unaware that homeowner policy limits are almost always established by the insurance company or its agents.

CARe will continue working on homeowners’ behalf to correct this situation. Therefore, we ask you to fill out the survey regarding who and how your coverage was determined.

http://www.carehelp.org/downloads/handouts/InsuranceCoverageSurvey.pdf

CARe will also be providing classes to homeowners to show how to be “INSURED TO VALUE” or ITV with their insurance companies.

Disaster Prepared:

Disaster Preparedness Website

Did everyone feel the wake up call this Tuesday? [5.4 shaker rattles L.A.] This might be the time to get that earthquake insurance and a 72 hour kit. The website below has been prepared by the city of San Francisco, but most of the tips can be implemented anywhere!

---

San Francisco [and all of California] is exposed to a wide variety of hazards, both natural and man-made. Earthquakes, fires, severe storms, power outages, and acts of terrorism are just some of the potential emergencies we may encounter.

Imagine that you have no electricity, no gas, no water and no telephone service. Imagine that all the businesses are closed and you are without any kind of emergency services. What will you do until help arrives?

http://www.72hours.org

They even have the entire website in PDF format
